KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A spokesperson for Spectrum Cable said a "criminal act of vandalism" caused an outage Saturday for customers across Kansas City.

The spokesperson said the outage was due to two cuts: one to Spectrum's primary network and a second to a third-party network that Spectrum uses as a backup.

Services were restored by 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

"Our crews responded quickly and worked overnight to make the necessary repairs to restore service," the spokesperson said Sunday morning. "Criminal acts of network vandalism have become an issue affecting the entire telecommunications industry, not just by Spectrum, largely due to the increase in the price of precious metals. These acts of vandalism are not only a crime, but also affect our customers, local businesses and potentially emergency services."

The company is working with "local, state and federal law enforcement" and is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to an arrest.

Anyone with information can contact Spectrum at 833-404-8477.

Spectrum did not include the location of the alleged acts.

This incident marks the second time within a week that service was knocked out across Kansas City.

On Sunday, May 11, another potential act of vandalism was listed as the cause of an outage to Google Fiber customers in the Northland.

The company provided a dedicated tip line: 833-404-TIPS (8477).
